Iran denies nuclear-bomb plan
Mottaki said Iran aims to press ahead with what he called its civilian programme [AFP]

Iran has accused the US of perpetuating a "huge lie" about its nuclear ambitions.

The International Atomic Energy Agency reported last month that Iran was not co-operating, and could be hiding some nuclear activity.

But speaking at a symposium sponsored by the Asia Society in New York on Thursday, Manouchehr Mottaki, the Iranian foreign minister, said Iran has no intention of building an atomic bomb and intends to press ahead with its civilian nuclear programme.

He restated Tehran's view that the Iranian nuclear programme is peaceful and not geared towards the production of nuclear weapons, pointing out that possession of weaons of mass destruction violates Islamic teachings.

Improvement unlikely

Mottaki ruled out any improvement in his country's ties with the US unless Washington alters its foreign policy following the election of a new president next  month.

"Whatever candidate becomes the next president of the US, he will have no other option than to bring about new developments in American foreign policy," he said.

He said that the next US president would have to try to "reach out to other countries around the world, including the countries in the Middle East".

"If such developments happen in the White House, in words and in deeds", Tehran would consider them, Mottaki said.

"So like everybody else we have to wait and see what the new US policies [will be after next month's presidential election]."

US-Iran relations

Mottaki blamed Washington for the dismal state of bilateral relations.

"The behaviour shown by US officials in the past decades has not been encouraging, has not encouraged Iranian officials to work to improve relations," he said.

"If serious changes come about with regard to such a behaviour, we will certainly study the possibility."

Mottaki's comments came as Ali Asghar Soltanieh, his country's ambassador to the IAEA, insisted that Tehran would continue to enrich uranium while there was no legally binding international assurance of a nuclear-fuel supply.

"We are going to continue as long as there is no legally binding instrument for assurance of supply," he said after attending a conference in the Belgian capital Brussels on Thursday.

Asked whether Iran would end its controversial uranium enrichment programme if such a guarantee were in place, Soltanieh said it would first have to be shown to be effective.

"It is not only the piece of paper, you have to practise ... the plan," he said.

"We had a contract with the US and they did not fulfil their obligations ... Germany had a contract and they did not."

Carry on Iran
Iran do not waste your time in denying or explaining anything. They have already made up their mind to destroy you under nuclear or any other pretext. Just prepare yourselves.

USA has now provided Israel with enough weaponry to blow away Iran several times over. Mottaki would appear to be asking for the inevitable.

No need to worry Israel will never attack Iran. Iran has sufficient missile power to hit back at all of Israel.

Iran Denies nuclear-bomb plan.
Surely, Iran will not accept that they are planning to build N-bomb. They make N-bomb not for Israel and US or for the West. What Iran will get in Israel, US or the West? Nothing. . . Iran is building N-bomb for thier rich neighbors. Of course if Iran will take control the middles, Iran will have everything she needs. Think of it my arab friend.

so what.....&.....why not
Firstly , I would like 2 thank the Aljazeera team 4 its efforts. I dont understand why people can not trust a country like Iran, Iran since the revolution has fighted for peace and prosperity in the world, where as the US are the one engaging in wars , weather it is directly or in directly. Read the History it says it all. And if Iran does want N-bombs (which they dont) why are they rejected, US and Israeil, both have extensive nuclear bombs, doesn't Iran have a right to guard themselves.

Iran denies nuclear-bomb plan.
If Iran really doesn't have a plan to build N-bomb, Why they not change thier process to generate electricity for its people? Hundreds of alternatives to generate cheaper electricity available and why they are keeping enriching uranium? What is the plan for Iran keep refining the uranium, for electricity? Such a big LIAR. . .

Real reason for US-Iran sparring
The Tehran government developed a plan to begin competing with New York's NYMEX and London's IPE with respect to international oil trades - using a euro-denominated international oil-trading mechanism. Without some form of US intervention, the Euro is going to establish a foothold in the international oil trade. With US debt levels and the stated neoconservative project for US global domination, this is seen as an encroachment on US dollar supremacy in the oil market. I think the US government are a bunch of criminals.

Miserable appologists
Fortunately Amir, you make up an insignificant number of Muslim apologists who have not read your own history. Who was involved in your country's so-called coup in which Mousadeq was ousted and the Shah was put in place instead? Who was involved in the coup that ousted Sukarno in 1965 and unleashed a bloodbath such as the poor Indon had never seen before? Your beloved US government through its arm the CIA, the US government, which cannot stand for other nation's independence from US interests! Shame!

Who has NUCLEAR ambitions??
During his late September visit to New York, the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that 'the era of nuclear bombs has ended', stressing that weapons of mass destruction have no place on Iran's defensive doctrine. Israel, meanwhile, is widely believed to have acquired some 200-300 nuclear warheads. Former US president Jimmy Carter confirmed in late May that Israel is the possessor of the sole nuclear arsenal in the Middle East.

Seek truth, find peace
Look behind, beneath, above, not just in front for seeking truth is everything If Iran's bourse becomes a successful alternative for oil trades, it would challenge the hegemony currently enjoyed by the financial centres in both London (IPE) and New York (NYMEX).
