Watch part two
Indonesians will head to the polls on July 8 in only the second direct presidential elections in the secular country with the largest Muslim majority in the world.
Incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his ruling Democratic Party will be competing for a second five-year term against former president Megawati Sukarnoputri from the PDI-P and Jusuf Kalla from the Golkar Party.
All three candidates are familiar faces to voters with links to the era of long-term Indonesian leader Suharto.
Despite a first term plagued by natural disasters, including the Asian tsunami and a series of devastating earthquakes, Yudhoyono has been leading in the polls against the other contenders.
The election in the world's third largest democracy will be fought on several issues such as the economy, personality and corruption.
101 East joins the election trail in Indonesia to ask if Yudhoyono can be re-elected.
This episode of 101 East aired from Thursday, July 2, 2009.
