Inside USA - Face to face with John Bolton

No figure epitomises the era in Washington now drawing to a close quite like the tough-talking John Bolton.

He was under-secretary of state for arms control in the run-up to the Iraq war.

Then he was named ambassador to the UN, a position he held until 2006. The appointment was so controversial that the president made it while Congress was in recess.

Never conciliatory or conflict-shy, Bolton today thinks the Bush administration is soft on North Korea, that the US should support an Israeli strike on Iran and he is still waiting for the evidence of Saddam's weapons of mass destruction to come in.
