NZ wary of Bangladesh threat

A perfect record against Bangladesh and the defection of many of the home team's key players to a rebel league does not mean New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori expects an easy time of it in their upcoming series.

New Zealand has won all six tests and 11 one-day internationals it has played against Bangladesh, but is aware of the challenge posed by the country's humidity and slow pitches.

Good record

"We have a good winning record against Bangladesh, but we are expecting a tough series," New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori told a news conference.

"The pitch here is typically a subcontinent one, with plenty of turns," Vettori said after a morning practice session at Dhaka's Mirpur Stadium.

"It will be a test for us under different conditions."

Bangladesh controversy

Bangladesh goes into the series having lost several first-choice internationals who had chosen to play in the Indian Cricket League, a non-sanctioned Twenty20 competition.

The Bangladesh board does not recognise the ICL, so the players were ineligible for international selection.

Vettori ambitious

Vettori said his team was aiming to sweep the one-day series again, so that his side could climb to the No. 2 spot in the world rankings behind Australia.

Vettori said slow bowlers, including Jeetan Patel and Scott Styris, could expect to get plenty of overs on the turning wickets.

He also acknowledged the abilities of Bangladesh bowlers, such as Mashrafee bin Mortaza, Shahadat Hossain and Abdur Razzak.

Warm-up match

New Zealand, which arrived September 30 in Dhaka, will play a warm-up match
Tuesday.

The first two one-day internationals will be played October 9 and 11 in Dhaka, while the southeast city of Chittagong will host the third on October 14.

The first test will begin October 17 at Chittagong, and the second on October 25
in Dhaka.
